I have lived in Chicago for the past 7 or so years, but have never gotten around to re-registering to vote, instead maintaining my permanent absentee status in California. I like to think that, while certainly not a swing state, California voter registration allows my to combat often ridiculous ballot initiatives, and support others that suffer in the legislature from a lack of political will (i.e. prop 1, 2).
I also love voting at home, with a laptop for research, and a cup of tea, taking as long as I need to make up my mind. No lines, no confusion. Just me and my kitchen table.
Yesterday my wife was near tears because her ballot never arrived. So she flew on a last minute ticket to California last night to vote, and is returning this afternoon, just in time for the big show in Grant Park.
